ABOUT
let's get to know each other
I’m Dr. Amanda McGough.
I grew up in a small rown (think 2 stoplights) in Eastern North Carolina and have been in Charlotte for over 20 years. While I have been fortunate to work in a variety of settings, owning my own private practice has been a dream come true. Outside of work, the things that bring my heart joy are spending time with my husband and 2 daughters (10th and 6th grade), playing with our adorable Goldendoodle Noodles, spending time with friends, laughing at comedy shows, traveling (the picture below is one I took on a family trip to Hawaii), and volunteering with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

I have extensive training and experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). These evidence-based orientations allow me to help my clients of all ages identify patterns that aren’t working for them and empower them with skills to change those patterns.
My approach to therapy is collaborative, straightforward, nonjudgmental and strengths-based. I am also an ally to the LGBTQ+ community.
I truly consider it an honor to sit with clients and help them see the possibilities in their lives and how they can reach their full potential. I aim to create a safe, warm space where you can feel heard and understood. I consider myself to be a member of your team- sometimes coaching, sometimes cheering and always supporting.

I am out-of-network with all insurance companies and do not accept any insurance directly. To determine if you are eligible for any out-of-network benefits with your policy that may partially reimburse you for therapy services, I encourage you to contact your insurance company directly. All fees are due at the time of service. I can provide a super bill for your needs if you elect to file for out-of-network benefits. Those benefits would be paid directly to you.
You may also be eligible to use your Health Savings Account (HSA) for therapy.
